My name is David Mortellito and I’m a New York City based Scenic Artist. I’ve worked on scenic crews for various theaters and shops in the New York and New Jersey area, as well as the Santa Fe Opera in New Mexico. Other notable scene shops include Konduit NYC, The Juilliard School, Fordham University, Playwrights Horizons, and Two River Theater.

I received a BFA for Theatrical Design from Mason Gross School of the Arts in 2015. I was then accepted into the Juilliard Internship Program at The Juilliard School for their 2015-16 season. From there I was accepted into the Santa Fe Opera Apprenticeship Program where I worked as an Apprentice, Journeyman, and eventually Staff Scenic Artist.

During my time in school I was very fortunate to study scenic painting under the instruction of Peter Miller (Local 829). I gained an appreciation for trompe l’oeil and other theatrical painting techniques. Since graduation, I’ve had the opportunity to work on many interesting projects under the excellent direction of scenic charges like Mark Edlund, Jenny Stanjeski, Keeley Stadler, Colleen Dolan, Mike D’Arcy and others.

Since the end of 2021 I’ve been the Scenic Charge at Konduit NYC. Konduit specializes in photo shoots, product launches, immersive experiences, and other custom scenery . Project timelines are usually very condensed, so speed and efficiency have been paramount to complete projects successfully.

If you enjoy the quality of my work, and would like to work with me in the future, feel free to send a text or email. Thank you for visiting my website.
